The use of plastic money could reduce tax evasion by €5 billion.
At this year's DET, the Cybercrime Unit of the Hellenic Police will showcase the FeelSafe innovative actions platform, focusing on e‑commerce through the secure use of credit and debit cards
Within the framework of the 80th Thessaloniki International Fair 2015 (from 5 to 13-09-2015), the Hellenic Police, through the Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime and in collaboration with the National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce (HCE), will operate an information center (pavilion), which will present , among other things, the FeelSafe with a central theme of Electronic commerce through the safe use of credit and debit cards.
This platform is another new innovative initiative of the Directorate for Combating Cybercrime (ΔΙ.Δ.Η.Ε.) and the National Federation of Greek Commerce (Ε.Σ.Ε.Ε.), where they jointly proceeded with its implementation. «FeelSafe». Through feelsafe, guidelines will be given to avoid electronic fraud by category and safe usage rules for cards (Credit – Debit‑prepaid) so that the use of these begins, thereby reducing tax evasion significantly.
The result of this action is the joint systematic and scientific study of the issues and problems that arise for trade and consumers from electronic transactions, with the aim of informing them about online risks and the safe use of the internet in commercial transactions using cards (Credit - Debit - prepaid). Our aim is to continuously inform 630,000 commercial enterprises through innovative actions and online applications on issues of safe use of the internet and safe management of e-commerce processes.
Crackdown on tax evasion by the Cybercrime Unit
According to the 2015 annual e‑commerce research, it emerged that the e‑commerce market showed signs of improvement in 2014, as Greek online consumers increased by about 10% the number of categories they bought online in 2014.
The growth is also evident in the number of online purchases, since from one purchase per month in 2013, this proportion increased to three purchases per two months in 2014. The forecasts for 2015 are positive, since it is estimated that 6 out of 10 online consumers will increase the value of their online purchases and only 1 out of 10 will decrease them. Based on estimates, the use of plastic money could contribute to the reduction of tax evasion (estimated at 25% of GDP) by 5 billion euros and an increase in tax revenues of over 1 billion euros on an annual basis (VAT, taxation of individuals and legal entities).
Therefore, the coordinated implementation of an extensive package of measures to increase electronic transactions could reduce the "black" economy by at least 25%, significantly boosting the country's public revenues.
