Camera hacking is starting to become a serious issue now as there is a possibility of unauthorized people making video recordings.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) warned people Wednesday that these systems can be vulnerable to hacker attacks because many of them have the ability to be used remotely, which is enabled by default. July 7, where they were watching their toddler when it suddenly started playing music and a voice said they were being watched.

According to Liz Melvin, a senior OPP officer, the child was ready to sleep in his nursery when the camera was activated remotely.

“The camera played mysterious music and a voice was heard telling the parents and the child that they were being watched,” Ms. Melvin told the National Post. “Obviously this can get disturbing.”
She went on to say that the family’s internet service provider confirmed that the router had been compromised and the source of the hack could be anywhere in the world.

However, although such cases of hacking into baby monitors are reported every month, Ms. Melvin stated that there are no other such impacts that have been reported and that she was not aware of any previous investigations of this type of (camera) hacking in the area.

He said there are no suspects in the case and that the investigation is ongoing.
Finally, he added that in an effort to protect themselves, people should use passwords to protect Internet access and access to surveillance systems. Similarly, it is a good idea to purchase cameras from trusted sources and cover them when not in use.
