Iceland Pirate Party: Citizenship for Snowden
Birgitta Jónsdóttir, leader of the Pirate Party of Iceland, intends to grant Icelandic citizenship to Edward SNOWDEN if he becomes the country's interior minister.
This move would be beneficial for both SNOWDEN and the United States, the head of the rapidly rising party explained in an interview with Forbes, due to the ongoing propaganda war between the Kremlin and Washington.
In a poll conducted last March, the country's Pirate Party came first in the preferences of respondents.
Two years ago, six members of the Icelandic parliament proposed granting Icelandic citizenship to Edward SNOWDEN , in order to avoid charges of espionage by the United States.
The proposal was then voted down, but Birgitta Jónsdóttir is among those who still believe that SNOWDEN should become an Icelandic citizen. The parliament will still need to approve the proposal, the current party leader clarified in her recent interview.
