Europe Vs. Google: Today the indictment

As we reported in a previous post, the European competition regulator was ready to move against Google. The charges against the American internet company are based on a five-year investigation that has been halted three times, sparking political storms.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the competition regulator in Europe is reportedly planning to file the first formal indictment against Google on Wednesday for violating antitrust laws.

The charges expected to be announced tomorrow will be the first significant ones since the Microsoft case, which was already condemned by the same group a decade ago.

Recode also reported that Margrethe Vestager, who took over as EU Competition Commissioner in November, is flying to the United States on Wednesday and may make a statement after the meeting of European Union Commissioners.

The case against Microsoft took over sixteen years to complete, after the initial complaint in 1993, the resolution and announcement of the final fine came in 2004. The European Antitrust Union had set a fine of 1.7 million euros at the time, which the company paid until 2012.
So Google's case is likely to take an extremely long time to fully complete.
