Facebook faces the possibility of being involved in criminal proceedings over its facial recognition feature.
A man from Illinois filed a legal case against FaceΒοοk because, as he claims, it used his face without his consent, and he noted that he was never given the chance to stop FaceΒοοk from using his biometric data.
The social media giant said it would defend its position, saying it did not violate any law. The most popular social networking has had the tag suggestions feature since 2010, which automatically suggests names to photos of those included in it. There is an option for users to disable the option, but the lawsuit against Facebook notes that this option is not enough.
It is worth noting that, as reported in Mashable, Facebook is working on a facial recognition technology, developed by DeepFace, which promises increased face recognition capabilities that will reach the levels of the human eye. This technology is still in its early stages and is being tested, while it is estimated that its arrival will change the way we interact with the social network.
It remains to be seen what will happen with this legal dispute that will arise.
