Turkey: Google is also in the spotlight!

The "serial" confrontation between Ankara and popular online services continues. After blocking social networks due to the publication of photos of prosecutor Kiraz during his hostage-taking in Istanbul, the neighboring country threatened to block Google with a similar action ifit does not withdraw the controversial photos.

According to the BBC, the controversial images with the prosecutor were removed from the search engine giant, resulting in the lifting of the threat of a ban.

A Turkish court yesterday ordered the country's internet service providers to cut off access to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and more than 160 other websites that had allowed users to share the controversial images, in which Kiraz is depicted with a gun to his head by a masked member of the far-left DHKP-C. Access to the major social networks was restored late on Good Monday, after the controversial images were taken down.

The court had also issued a second order, warning Google that it would face similar action if links to the images were not removed from searches.
