Considering that in developing countries most Android smartphones remain below average in performance, as the Android One and cheap offerings from China and India have not been launched for a long time, Facebook decided to release a lighter version of the social network application.
Facebook-Lite is designed to work on low-end smartphones and in markets that only have access to 2G networks. It is only 252KB in size and is optimized for extremely low data consumption. The version is currently only available in Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe, but a wider rollout may be considered for those who want an even lighter app for their smartphone.
