Cryptophone: Evidence of wiretapping in political parties

Traces of wiretapping and interference in mobile phones in areas where party offices are located as well as in other central points of Athens, a special device purchased by "Ta Nea" recorded the last two weeks. Most of these "very suspicious incidents", as characterized by the software, were detected a short distance from the offices of New Democracy in Syngrou and immediately after in Koumoundourou Square where the headquarters of SYRIZA is located and in the wider area of ​​the offices of PASOK, towards Exarchia and Solonos. However, a record in the recordings of suspicious activity for interceptions, which does not appear to be related to Sunday's elections, is located in the triangle between the Athens Tower, the American Embassy and Papadiamantopoulou Street, as reported by the publication. From January 6 to 18, measurements were taken via Cryptophone. on a daily basis and at different times of the day in the blocks around the offices of the parties but also in ministries such as the Ministry of Finance, as well as embassies. The newspaper also repeatedly visited areas where political leaders reside. In total, during the two weeks, “Ta Nea” covered more than 400 kilometers in the center of Athens and the suburbs, while 17,371 measurements were carried out and 193 “very suspicious” incidents were recorded. In addition, there were 64 “high” grade incidents, 78 “medium” and 263 “low”. The device used to detect suspicious activity is one of the most modern mobile phones with anti-eavesdropping applications: the Cryptophone 500 of the German company GSMK, the cost of which amounts to several thousand euros.

The exact same device was used during investigations by the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, which revealed last month the existence of mobile phone monitoring stations in Oslo.
