A group of hacktivists, who go by the name Anonymoys, have claimed responsibility for the breach of Swedish government email accounts, in retaliation for the shutdown of the world-famous pirate website The Pirate Bay and the seizure of its central servers by Swedish police last week.
In addition to accounts of Swedish government officials, the Anonymous group claimed to have also gained access to email accounts belonging to members of the governments of Israel, India, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico, revealing the compromised email addresses and passwords in plain text.
The data was leaked by the attackers online, along with the following message: “Attention: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!! Bye:*”
The breach was announced by Anonymous via their official Twitter account. The hackers also posted a Pastebin link to a list of the login credentials of the compromised government officials' accounts.
