Microsoft is currently working on a refresh of Windows 10 to focus on consumer features in the upcoming operating system. While the company is detailing these improvements for its January press conference, a preview of the version, 9901, has leaked online showing us the various changes the company is making .
The biggest new feature is the addition of Cortana. A preview video leaked earlier this month shows Cortana sitting atop the Windows 10, responding to text and voice commands. It's all very similar to the Windows Phone version, as you'd expect, with access to the notebook, reminders, and favorites. It's not fully functional, but we haven't seen the digital assistant fully integrated into the new operating system yet. The final version is likely to change significantly.
There's also a new Xbox app .It appears to act as a gateway to the entire Xbox system, including access to achievements, friends lists, activity feeds, and the online store. Microsoft notes that this is an early preview of the app, so it may include SmartGlass in the future. It's also a first look at how the company is designing Windows 10 apps.
The Windows Store, in Windows 10, is also built into the system. Unlike the current store, music and movies/TV shows are included in it, alongside apps and games. This could mean that Microsoft is closer to integrating the Xbox Music and Xbox Video stores into a single Windows Store.
