Microsoft has been tolerant of those who use pirated software for years. However, this behavior does not apply to everyone.
There is no official confirmation or update from Microsoft, but international media outlets have begun publishing cases of owners of the company's pirated software who have received... "invitation" to court!
Microsoft may not yet have touched on the hot topic of pirated software that costs billions every year, but that doesn't mean it can't do it or that it doesn't have the technical means to track down users.
For now, it appears that the legal action concerns "pirates" who repeatedly activate pirated software for dozens of users, providing it as a service.
In this case, the company allegedly identified a single IP address from which pirated software was being continuously activated. The company allegedly treated the case not as an individual user, but as a “commercial” activity. Thus, according to international media, legal proceedings were initiated.
Earlier this year, a Microsoft admitted that the company is well aware of how many people are using its pirated software and how they are doing so. However, she jokingly characterized the use of such products by individuals as the freemium side of Microsoft, which allows users – even in this way – to experience Microsoft programs.
However, it seems the company isn't kidding when some people overuse tolerance to make money or when they overdo it... in general.
