Yesterday, December 3rd, the PlayStation celebrated its 20thbirthday . Twenty years have passed since the then-new gaming console made its appearance, shattering and changing the previous data. Specifically, it was officially released in Japan on December 3rd, 1994.
On the official PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, wanted to thank gamers and PlayStation fans for their support throughout this time. Among other things, he says that it seems like yesterday that the PS was released and he says he is happy to still be in this position and to be able to celebrate PlayStation's birthday with everyone.
Continuing, he refers to the criticism the company received when it announced the project, about whether it would be able to enter the market at that time, which for game nostalgics we have to remember several consoles and systems that existed at that time. After all, Sony was known at that time for the electronic circuits it manufactured, the sound systems and various other home appliances. In no way could anyone have imagined that the new gaming console, the PS, would conquer the market so quickly.
Ken Kutaragi's passion for games was what made Sony Computer Entertainment a reality. After all, the early 90s also saw the great development of games, going from 16 bits to 32, then to 64, and slowly we reached today with amazing graphics. The original PS aimed to make adventure a reality and it succeeded in doing so perfectly.
Yoshida, closes with an incredible gift to PlayStation fans an anniversary edition of the PS4 for the twentieth anniversary! In a special box and with the same color of the first PS, gray, for those who remember it, the anniversary console will be released in just 12,300 pieces worldwide, which will be distributed in various countries and with a price of 499€. Of course it will not be available in stores, but it will be announced how those interested can obtain it.
Finally, Yoshida closes by thanking for these 20 years and looking forward to the next 20.
