Dropbox , the company's technicians are trying to restore as many files as possible to calm the anger of customers.
On Saturday, the company announced that “received many reports from users” for a specific feature of the application called Selective Sync . This feature gives users the ability to select the folders that will be synced with their computer. But a bug in older versions of Dropbox caused the application to close, resulting in users' files being lost. The company stated that it took the following measures to address the problem:
1) We fixed the problem in the software 2) We have ensured that all our customers use the latest version of the software 4) We have withdrawn the old versions so that no one can use them 5) We are conducting further tests so that a similar problem never occurs in the future.
The company, also, is trying to appease the dissatisfied users, as Engadget reports.
Dropbox is trying to restore lost files where possible and offers users who were affected a free subscription for one year (Dropbox Pro, which costs $9.99 per month, or $99 per year, and provides up to 1 terabyte of storage space).
The moral of the story?
Do not rely solely on any service to store or sync your important files. Keep backups on a separate device, such as a USB drive.
