Those users who decided to create a new Gmail account and consequently, a new Google account, are not required to create a profile on the company's social network, Google+.
According to Marketing Land, Google has decided to remove this mandatory Google+ sign-up, after about 2.5 years. The option to sign up for Google+ is now optional.
This move raised several questions about the future of Google's social network, while a month ago, Google decided not to display the Google+ profile of the author of articles that appear in search results.
