Twitch.tv malware targets Steam users

Twitch-Chat-Malware-Spreads-Wipes-Dry-Steam-Accounts

Security researchers warn of malware on Twitch.tv that could wipe out your Steam account.

According to F-Secure, the malware – which is hidden in advertisements – is spread through the chat function on the Twitch.tv platform. A Twitch bot sends messages through various channels and invites users to participate in a weekly draw in order to win various prizes, such as games.

However, the link does not lead to a contest, but to a Java that asks for the users' name and email address, as well as permission to publish the winner's name.

Of course, user data is not collected for any lottery. Users are infected with malware while visiting the page, which injects a binary file into their computers and executes it to perform various actions on the users' Steam accounts.

The malware can, for example, take screenshots or add new friends on Steam, as well as accept pending friend requests.

The malware can also make purchases if the user has funds in their account, validate pending transactions, and sell items at a discount on the marketplace.

Essentially, this malware can turn your Steam account upside down.
