Mayo Clinic will collaborate with IBM using its supercomputer, Watson , for cancer research .
More specifically, the Mayo Clinic hopes that with the help of Watson, it will be able to more quickly "match" cancer patients with the appropriate experimental treatment, so that useful conclusions can be drawn.
Patients with lung , colon , and breast cancer will be able , through the "intelligence" of the supercomputer, to register for the appropriate treatment immediately, thus saving a lot of valuable time .
Researchers believe that with IBM's help, the number of patients who will be immediately treated will increase by 5 to 10%, because the process of registering, evaluating and ultimately submitting to treatment is quite time-consuming.
This is not the first time Watson has joined a cancer-fighting program, as in collaboration with the New York Genome Center , it had consulted medical literature archives of clinical data .
IBM is one of the large companies that is heavily involved in important medical issues.
Intel is also very actively involved in the fight against cancer and has set a very ambitious goal: To have the scourge eradicated by 2020.
