Alexis Tsipras visited the stands of the Thessaloniki International Fair, where he asked questions, joked, asked for a machine and congratulated the students he met there.
The SYRIZA president visited a stand of students who are building a robotic machine, to whom he congratulated them for being able to stay in Greece, noting that the brain drain, the loss of "smart minds" observed in the country, is a great wound.
But he also had very kind words to say to the students who are building an electric car. “Those who say that Greek universities are finished should see this,” noted Mr. Tsipras, who also visited the pavilion of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. There he was interested in the exports of a cola-type soft drink, with stevia. “Do we have exports”? he asked, to get the answer that the product is doing very well. “You are the minority, we should pamper you, because exports have fallen. We should put you in a… museum!”, Mr. Tsipras replied.
His humor was also mobilized when he visited the Fire Department stand, where he saw an old BMW engine. “Do you have one of these to give to SYRIZA?” he asked the people at the stand, but left empty-handed. Before leaving, Mr. Tsipras did not forget to acknowledge the sacrifice of the firefighter who died in the P. Faliro fire on Friday night and left a handwritten dedication at the stand. “Devotion to a fellow human being in need is not a profession, it is a duty. I express my condolences to you for the unjust loss of your colleague and I wish you strength in your work,” Mr. Tsipras wrote.
Fainting from the ENFIA and the police
Mr. Tsipras was at both the EKAB and the Police booths. At the first, a rescuer demonstrated to him how to provide first aid in the event of a cardiac arrest. “We talk to the patient and if he doesn’t respond, that’s a problem,” the rescuer began, but Mr. Tsipras interrupted him, noting, “He must have fainted from the ENFIA.” When the rescuer continued by saying that we all need to learn to call 166, the leader of the main opposition noted again: “We’ll take it, will that come?”, to which the rescuer replied that there are indeed shortages in personnel.
At the Police kiosk, Mr. Tsipras was briefed by Manolis Sfakianakis, who, among other things, told him that in the last five years, 1,058 suicides have been prevented by the online line. “Congratulations, you are the other form of the police, the way it should function,” Mr. Tsipras replied.
