Micro-sensors will measure wind speed, temperature and any external movement
The system was developed by BAE Systems, a company working with the British Ministry of Defense. As it became known, to achieve this result, tens of thousands of micro-sensors were used on the outside of the aircraft, so it could detect problems before they arise.
The sophisticated micro-sensors used for the experiment could measure wind speed, temperature, and any movement on the outside of the aircraft.
"I noticed how useful the sensor built into my dryer is, which warns the user of any possible overheating of the device, and I thought that we can replace large, bulky and expensive sensors with smaller, cheaper and clearly more sophisticated ones, even on the outside of aircraft," emphasized Lydia Hyde, the woman who first thought of developing this particular technology for aircraft.
"In the same way, cars and boats can be covered in thousands of micro-sensors, creating a 'smart skin' that can 'feel' the world around it and detect problems before they even appear," she added.
