Apple recently filed a new patent, which heralds a future without… cables, where the company's devices will charge wirelessly by sending magnetic resonance signals.
The American patent with number 8.796.885 describes a system based on NFMR (near-field magnetic resonance) technology, which will be capable of wirelessly charging multiple devices at close range from a base station (e.g., a desktop computer).
According to Apple, the power supplies for the devices will be about the size of a AAA battery and can be easily integrated into peripheral devices, as you can see in the image below:
The main unit will be small enough to fit inside a desktop computer case and can be used to charge more than one device. However, the company notes that charging multiple devices simultaneously could reduce the range and power provided by the source.
Thus in the near future, all Apple computers will need only one cable to operate – the power cable for the main unit. All other peripherals, such as keyboards, mice, monitors, etc., will not require cable connections, batteries, or separate chargers.
