Microsoft's digital assistant is evolving
Microsoft may have been late to the dance of digital assistants, but the company is trying to make up for lost ground with an aggressive policy as best it can, to the point where it is considering bringing Cortana to both Android and iOS.
Microsoft Manager Marcus Ash stated:
"The Android/iOS question is of particular interest to us. We are still trying to make Cortana fully usable on Windows Phone and see what is missing for a perfect experience. But we certainly have active discussions about a possibility of porting it to other software.".
Apple's digital assistant Siri, which made its debut on iOS 3 years ago, monopolizes Apple devices and we find it difficult for Apple to easily accept the entry of an alternative option, even as an application in the App Store. On the other hand, Microsoft has put egos aside, resulting in rumors that the version of the new and upgraded Office suite for tablets will be available first on the iPad and then on Microsoft tablets.
Ash also left open the possibility that we could see Cortana available on the desktop or even in vehicles in the near future.
Especially since we have learned that in Microsoft-Apple relations we should never say that something is impossible, it will be particularly interesting to see how Cortana will make its entrance into another operating system in what form and how it will ultimately stand up to the already popular options of Siri and Google Now.
