Two students from Shanghai have been arrested for allegedly hacking into the computer systems of their educational institution with the aim of altering their grades.
The two young men, Chen and Zhang, apparently did not attend physical education classes regularly, so they decided to enter the college system in December 2013 and modify their grades.
After their successful attempt, several students apparently turned to the two young men for help.
The Shanghai Daily newspaper reports that the two students charged 15 to 20 yuan (€1.7 – €2.3) for each change they made to the college's database
The college noticed the false enrollments in March and patched the vulnerability, which allowed scores to be tampered with.
The two arrested individuals allegedly managed to make more than 80,000 yuan (over €9,000), helping more than 200 students improve their grades through unfair means.
