The Wall Street Journal found itself in the crossfire between the Syrian Electronic Army and Ira Winkler, who is CEO of security company Secure Mentem.
The Syrian Electronic Army(SEA) hacked four Twitter accounts: WSJ: @ WSJD, WSJ Europe (@ WSJPEurope), WSJ Africa (@ WSJAfrica) and WSJ Vintage (@ WSJVintage).
SEA posted the message “@Irawinkler is a cockroach” with an image of Ira Winkler’s head on the body of a cockroach.
The attack was carried out in response to an RSA Conference presentation where Winkler spoke about SEA's hacking methods with derision.
In his presentation, Winkler also commented that "these people are like the cockroaches of the Internet.".
This isn't the first attack carried out by SEA in response to this presentation. Last month, the group defaced the RSA conference website and said, "If there was a cockroach on the internet, it would definitely be you.".
The Wall Street Journal appears to have recovered the Twitter accounts from where it published: "We have secured the exposed Twitter accounts and they are now operating normally."
