Good news for Symbian users who use WhatsApp Messenger as a means of communicating with their friends and family, as the developers have just released a new version of the app.
WhatsApp Messenger 2.11.398 is now available on the project's website, which is probably one of the few places where you can download it, given the fact that the Nokia Store has closed for Symbian apps.
Last year, Nokia announced that Symbian apps listed on the Nokia Store would not receive any updates after January 1, 2014. This means that the latest version of WhatsApp Messenger will not be available for download through the Nokia Store.
However, WhatsApp Inc. developers are determined to continue supporting the Symbian. The reason is very simple – many mobile phone users from emerging markets could not afford to switch to newer platforms yet.
Unfortunately, the newest version of WhatsApp Messenger does not come with an official changelog, so there is no information about what's new in this version.
Old and new users can now download WhatsApp Messenger for Symbian 2.11.398 for free here. Please note that the app should be fully compatible with most devices running S60 3rd edition, 5th edition, Symbian^3, Symbian Anna or Symbian Belle OS.
