US President Barack Obama met with six executives from technology companies, including Google and Facebook, on Friday to discuss Internet security issues, following the scandal surrounding the activities of the National Security Agency (NSA).
The meeting was attended by Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Eric Schmidt of Google, Reed Hastings of Netflix, Drew Houston of Dropbox, Alex Karp of Palantir Technologies and Aaron Levy of Box.
Mr. Obama briefed the six executives on progress in implementing the reforms he had announced in January.
"The President reiterated the administration's commitment to taking steps that will make people feel more confident that their rights are protected while also ensuring that important tools are in place to keep us safe," the White House statement said.
Last week, in a phone call with Barack Obama, Mark Zuckerberg expressed his dissatisfaction with the US president regarding the government's surveillance program, following reports that the NSA had "hacked" into Facebook's servers with the aim of infecting specific computers with malware.
