Alex Kibkalo, a former Microsoft who most recently worked as a product management manager at 5nine Software (according to his LinkedIn profile), has been arrested on charges of stealing trade secrets related to Windows while working for Microsoft.
Kibkalo was arrested on Wednesday, according to a statement in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. According to the complaint he filed on March 17 at the US District Court for the Western District of Washington, Kibkalo – a Russian national and former Microsoft employee in Lebanon – transferred trade secrets related to Windows 8 to an anonymous technology blogger in France.
Microsoft ’s investigation concluded that Kibkalo “uploaded proprietary software, including unreleased software updates for Windows 8 RT and ARM devices, as well as the Microsoft Activation Server Software Development Kit (SDK) to a computer in Redmond, Washington, and then to his personal Windows Live SkyDrive account.” Kibkalo then appears to have provided the blogger with links to the file on his account.
