NATO websites targeted in cyberattack

NATO military alliance spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said on Twitter that several of its websites had been hit by "a major DDoS [denial-of-service] attack" on Saturday.

It also states that the attacks had no operational impact.

In DDoS attacks, hackers hacked into multiple computers to send an inordinate amount of data to the target in order to weaken the information system. Lungescu said experts were working to restore normal operation, but websites remained down for several hours.
