Security researchers at F-Secure have identified yet another interesting cyber campaign, which aims to trick unsuspecting users into downloading a fake version of Flash Player for Android.
The campaign is based on malware designed to target Android devices. Once the threat infects a device, fake “Flash 11” installers appear. When executed, unsuspecting users are asked to pay $5 (€3.6) via PayPal tocomplete the installation.
Flash Player is free, and Adobe has withdrawn the Android app since August 2012, so any website offering the app for money should be viewed with suspicion.
In addition to Flash Player, the cybercriminals behind this campaign are trying to trick users into paying for an MP3 YouTube downloader, as well as the game Flappy Birds, which was recently removed from official online app stores.
