What you don't know about Facebook

facebook-icon

Ten years now, billions of people have been wandering around this page. Are there still things that no one knows about Facebook and its creator, Mark Zuckerberg? If someone doesn't know why the famous logo is blue, that they can view the page... upside down or hasn't heard of the... Social Media Constitution, then the answer is yes.

The famous blue

Facebook's logo is blue because Mark Zuckerberg can't distinguish between red and green. "Blue is the richest color for me," he has said. The color has become so popular that the Facebook campus store even sells nail polish in the exact same shade.

The upside down facebook

You can view your Facebook page… upside down. In addition, the social media platform now supports over 70 languages, including “upside down” English.

The obsession with clothes

Zuckerberg's famous obsession with gray T-shirts and hoodies has an explanation. He does it so that he doesn't waste time every day trying to decide what to wear. Of course, when circumstances require it, he pays more attention to his clothing choices. For example, when he met with Barack Obama in 2011, he wore a suit. "I'm Barack Obama, and I'm the guy who made Mark wear a jacket and tie," the American president introduced himself at the time.

The proposal he rejected

In July 2006, Zuckerberg turned down a $1 billion offer from Yahoo to buy Facebook. The 22-year-old then-owner of 25% of the company explained that he didn't know what to do with the money. "I was going to create a new social media platform and I liked what I already had," he added. He obviously made the right choice. Facebook is currently valued at $135 billion.

The photos

About 350 million photos are posted to Facebook every day, with the site estimating last September that more than 250 billion images had been uploaded by then. That translates to 4,000 photos per second.

The political implications

After the financial crisis in 2008, Iceland decided to rewrite its Constitution using Facebook to gather ideas from its citizens. Although the idea was extremely progressive, the revolution was stifled on a political level, after it was rejected in a vote for technical reasons.

The drunk users

A survey has shown that three-quarters of Facebook users in Britain have a profile photo of themselves drinking or being visibly drunk.

Against Twitter

Zuckerberg is not a fan of Twitter. Although he has 295,000 followers, he has only posted 19 times, once in 2012 and the rest in 2009. Facebook may have a leg up on Twitter in terms of user numbers - 1 billion compared to 200 million - but the latter handles the "circulation" of news better.

"War" on viruses

Facebook has a bounty hunting program. It involves viruses, of course, as - like other major technology companies - it offers a reward to those who find flaws in the page. This ranges from 500 to 33,500 dollars.

Reason for divorce

More than a third of divorce applications filed in 2011 included a reference to Facebook, according to a UK-based law firm. The exact number worldwide cannot be determined, but with 8 trillion messages sent via the site in 2013, it is certain that there is enough evidence among them to officially end a marriage.
