Staysure, a large insurance company based in the United Kingdom, has issued a statement disclosing that the financial information of at least 93,000 of its customers is at risk, as it may have been compromised by hackers.
The company's systems were attacked last October, but the company became aware of the breach in mid-November and immediately hired researchers to determine the extent of the attack.
The attackers gained access to sensitive data, including names, addresses, encrypted payment card details and CVV details. The identity of the perpetrators remains unknown.
The company pointed out that the attack only affects customers who had taken out an insurance contract up to and including May 2012, as the company had stopped storing sensitive data after that date.
Staysure is offering all customers affected by the attack free security and fraud prevention services.
