Tesla increases the speed of Actually Smart Summon by 33%

Tesla is releasing FSD V14.3.3 today , which includes a 33% speed increase to Actually Smart Summon , raising the top speed from 6 mph to 8 mph. This speed increase is part of a broader update (software version 2026.14.6.6) that merges Spring 2026 software features with the FSD branch for the first time.

Actually Smart Summon (ASS) has been one of Tesla’s most polarizing features since its launch in September 2024. It allows a Tesla to autonomously navigate a parking space to pick up the owner or drive to a designated location. The previous 6 mph speed limit often made it faster for owners to walk to their vehicles, especially in busy commercial environments where other drivers would pile up behind the Tesla, creating awkward situations.

Users also had to keep a close eye on the vehicle and be ready to stop it via the app, as it was known to be involved in minor accidents.

With the new update, the speed limit has been increased to 8 mph (13 km/h). While that may seem minimal, it represents a significant improvement in real-world use. At 8 mph, the car can cover a 200-foot parking space in about 17 seconds, compared to 23 seconds at the previous limit, effectively shaving about 6 seconds off each call session.

This improvement builds on major architectural changes introduced in FSD V14.3, which rewrote the AI compiler for 20% faster response times. In the V14.3.2, Tesla unified the AI model powering consumer FSD, commercial Robotaxi fleet, and Summon into a single architecture, allowing the parking operation to use the same neural network that handles highway driving.

This unified model gives Tesla the confidence to increase the speed limit, as the system can now process its environment faster and react more quickly to obstacles, pedestrians, and other vehicles in parking lots.

The speed increase is limited to vehicles equipped with AI4 (Hardware 4), which is the only hardware that supports v14. Owners with HW3 shouldn’t expect the same 8 mph limit. This is in line with Tesla’s strategy of prioritizing advanced FSD capabilities for AI4 first. The company has promised a “V14 Lite” for HW3 vehicles internationally, but that update is still months away.

The speed increase follows the closure of NHTSA's investigation into Actually Smart Summon, which documented 159 incidents but found no injuries or deaths. The agency determined that the issues were addressed through six over-the-air software updates during the investigation and no recalls were issued.

With the regulatory concerns resolved, Tesla is now able to further enhance the feature’s capabilities, with the speed limit increase being the first tangible step. Additionally, FSD V14.3.3 introduces a hands-free trip meter to the main display, tracking how many consecutive miles the driver has driven without disabling FSD. The meter resets when the driver takes over, providing a gamified experience to discourage unnecessary intervention.

The update also overhauls the mandatory feedback disable menu, simplifying the options from “Preference, Discomfort, Critical, and Navigation” to “Navigation, Parking, Critical, and Other.”

While the speed increase to Actually Smart Summon is a welcome change, it may not significantly improve the usefulness of the feature for all users.
