Tesla is recalling all 173 RWD Cybertrucks it sold due to defective brake discs that could cause the wheels to separate. In a statement on the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, Tesla says that “the holes in the brake discs may crack and allow the pin to separate from the wheel hub.”

The recall affects all 173 $70,000 Cybertrucks Tesla has sold, which feature 18-inch steel wheels. The company has identified three warranty claims that may be related to the issue, but says it is “not aware of any crashes, deaths or injuries” related to the recall.
This is the 11th Cybertruck recall so far, following previous issues with the accelerator, converter, rearview cameras, and even font size. Tesla launched the RWD Cybertruck model last April, but discontinued it a few months later. In February of this year, it released a cheaper $60,000 dual-motor, all-wheel drive (AWD) Cybertruck version that is not affected by this recall.

According to Tesla, “on affected vehicles, more severe road irregularities and cornering may stress the pin hole in the wheel hub, causing cracks.” If the crack expands with continued use and stress, the wheel hub may eventually separate from the wheel hub. Tesla will remove and replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and wheel nuts at no charge.
This recall is a major blow to Tesla, as the Cybertruck is one of the company's most anticipated vehicles. The company has invested heavily in its development and production, and this recall could affect consumer confidence.
