In the last 12 months, 60% of new hires in the sector have been women – Overall, one third of employees are female
Something strange is happening in the tech world, which is no longer a man's business, as suddenly companies are hiring more women than men.
In the last 12 months, the technology industry in the US hired 60,000 workers, of whom 36,000 are women, or 60%, according to data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Typically, in technology companies, 70% to 80% of employees were male, but according to the statistical authority, things have changed in recent years.
“It’s certainly a surprise to see the sharp increase, but it’s still too early to know if there’s a trend,” said Shravan Goli, president of Dice Holdings, a leading provider of niche career websites for select professional communities.
He then added that "the increase in female recruitment has been contributed by information, which is not the same as in the past, but also by the tendency of companies for diversity. Thus, all of this has led to an increase in the awareness of technology companies and the attraction of more and more women.".
However, to reach 50% of all employees in the technology sector, women still have a long way to go, as for decades men have dominated high-level positions, especially in the recruitment sector, while according to official US data, women employees in the technology industries are approximately one-third of the total.
