Google: First AI smart glasses coming in 2026

Google has announced that it is developing two pairs of AI smart glasses , which will be released in 2026.

The first set of glasses features AI integration and is designed for screen-free assistance, with built-in speakers, microphones, and cameras to communicate with Google Gemini. Users will be able to take photos using the camera and then ask Gemini about their surroundings for immediate assistance.

The second set of glasses features the same AI capabilities along with an in-lens display that can display useful information, such as driving directions or live translation captions.

Both AI smart glasses will be connected to a smartphone, with processing taking place on that device. The glasses will run on Android XR, Google's mobile platform.

Collaboration with Samsung for new AI smart glasses

Google is working with Samsung to develop the glasses, while also partnering with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, two eyewear companies. The tech company says its eyewear options will be stylish, lightweight, and comfortable enough to wear all day.

Google's smart glasses will compete with Meta Ray-Bans and any upcoming products from Apple. Meta already has Ray-Bans and Oakley glasses with AI, and Ray-Bans with a screen inside the lens. Rumor has it that Apple is working on introducing its first set of AI smart glasses in 2026.
