If you're on the fence about whether to give a foldable smartphone a try, the Motorola Razr Ultra (2025) might be just what you've been waiting for, and you can get it for $999.99 ($300 off) on Amazon and Best Buy. Our reviewer praised its design (the wooden back panel has a layer of real wood) and found that Motorola still has the best software for a foldable. Fortunately, in testing, the phone's external screen was large enough to quickly check notifications without opening it and risking distraction.

Motorola has gone all out for its latest flagship flip phone with excellent performance, long battery life, and luxurious finishing options.
The Razr Ultra has two screens: a 4-inch external display with a resolution of 1080p, and a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1224p when the phone is open. Both screens look sharp, but the external display isn't bright enough for comfortable use in direct sunlight. Its hinge has been made more durable than previous Razr models, and its IP48 rating means it won't be damaged even if submerged in a meter of water. It's not fully dustproof, although it held up well when carried in a dusty bag. Still, you should be careful when using it near sand. Motorola guarantees three years of operating system upgrades for the Razr Ultra, which is respectable, but Samsung guarantees six years of operating system and security upgrades for the Flip 6.

This is 2025, so of course the smartphone has AI features built in, including notification summaries and the ability to start live transcription when you start a voice recording. These features have been hit or miss in testing, but Motorola was optimistic enough about them to put a dedicated AI button on the Razr Ultra. A long press or double press will launch these features. If you don't want to press a button, the Moto AI is available on its home screen.

Motorola has equipped the Razr Ultra with 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It supports wired charging up to 68W and wireless charging up to 30W, and its battery lasts all day without going into the red. The dual-camera system on the back includes a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. The selfie camera is also 50-megapixel, and we were able to get excellent shots from it in good lighting conditions, although it can be a bit overdone in image processing.
