The new Moto Edge 70 competes with Samsung and Apple

Ultra-thin phones are making a comeback, with Motorola positioning itself as a competitor alongside Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge and the newly released iPhone Air . Evan Blass has shared a marketing image of the Moto Edge 70 , which emphasizes a slim design while retaining key elements from its predecessor. The tagline “ Incredibly thin and incredibly durable ” underscores this focus on thinness.

The design seems to be a natural progression from this year's Edge 60, with a textured back and Moto's AI Key. The camera model remains largely unchanged, with a raised camera bump and raised lenses, and the curved side surfaces that are characteristic of the Edge series are still present.

The Moto Edge 70 appears to achieve its slimmer profile not through a new frame design, but by reducing the overall size and weight of the device. The previous Edge 60 was 7.9mm thick, leaving room for improvement. Motorola's ongoing partnership with Pantone is also noteworthy.

Motorola has a history of making ultra-thin smartphones, having released the first Moto Z nearly a decade ago, which was thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air. However, smartphone expectations have evolved, and this leak doesn't indicate any support for Moto Mods-like innovations, suggesting the Moto Edge 70 may not be that groundbreaking.

The release date of the Moto Edge 70 is uncertain, as its predecessor was launched in April this year, but the marketing picture seems almost complete. It is expected that the Edge series will continue to focus on mid-range specifications.

A leak from Evan Blass revealed that the Moto Edge 70 is under 6mm, comparable to the 5.8mm Galaxy S25 Edge and 5.6mm iPhone Air. A marketing video showcased the phone's slimmer build and highlighted three color options: a basic black/navy combo, green, and turquoise. The video also included AI features, including the Playlist Studio tool from this year's Razr series, and a look at the phone's battery, though it remains unclear whether it will use silicon-carbon technology or simply highlight "all-day" battery life.

Overall, the Edge 70's design, especially in the turquoise color with red details on the camera, is attractive. While a release date and US availability remain unknown, the device is shaping up to be an attractive addition to the ultra-thin smartphone trend.
