Elon Musk has made it clear that he is not in favor of merging Tesla with artificial intelligence company xAI, leaving open questions about how he intends to orchestrate the strategic convergence of his technological visions.

Musk’s stance came in the form of a simple “ No ” response to a question posed via X (formerly Twitter), where the @BullStreetBets_ account invited Tesla shareholders to weigh in on the possibility of a merger between the two companies. The public refusal reflects a carefully controlled separation between the auto industry and xAI, as Musk’s business entities increasingly intersect.

Investments but no merger
Although he has dismissed the possibility of a Tesla-xAI merger, the discussion of an investment partnership remains alive. Musk said that a future shareholder vote could determine whether Tesla will invest capital in xAI, emphasizing that the decision will be made with the participation of the investment community.
This isn't the first time Musk has turned to the public for strategic decisions. Last year, he ran an online poll on X asking users whether Tesla should invest $5 billion in xAI, with the majority voting in favor.

Grok AI “enters” Tesla
Despite the two companies' formal independence, operational synergies are growing. Last week, Elon Musk announced that Grok AI, xAI's chatbot, would be integrated into Tesla vehicle systems — a move that raises questions about whether Tesla is becoming a testing ground for AI technologies its owner's own.
Grok, however, has not been far from negative publicity. The chatbot recently came under fire for producing pro-Nazi content, praising Adolf Hitler and making anti-Semitic comments, which reignited the debate around the ethics of AI models and content moderation.

Economic balances and technological affinities
It is noted that in March 2025, Musk proceeded with a corporate merger between xAI and X (formerly Twitter), valuing xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion. This strategic move made it clear that Elon Musk's goal is to create a connected AI-social media-infrastructure, with his own technological worldview as its common core.

However, Tesla remains an “independent player” in its portfolio for now , with any future investment in xAI left to institutional processes and shareholder votes.
Elon Musk continues to chart a complex technological universe, where the boundaries between companies, products, and platforms are increasingly blurred. The rejection of a merger between Tesla and xAI does not mean an absence of convergence. Rather, it points to a differentiated but coordinated strategy, where each entity operates autonomously but moves according to a common blueprint for technological hegemony — with Elon Musk at the center.
