Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Malaysiais making significant progress with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi chairing the third meeting of the National Council (MTVET) today.

The meeting brought together important stakeholders, including ministers from relevant education and training ministries, industry leaders and academic figures.

The meeting focused on two review papers and three briefing papers, aimed at strengthening ongoing TVET strengthening initiatives. Key discussions included the implementation of a High Impact Programme Funding Initiative and the growing demand for skilled workforce in the cybersecurity, as highlighted by CyberSecurity Malaysia.
The establishment of a Cybersecurity Academy/Institute in Malaysia has been proposed, with the aim of enhancing the expertise of the local workforce through structured skills development programmes. This initiative supports the government’s efforts to respond to the rapid digital transformation affecting the economy.
Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the importance of integrating TVET components into the reintroduced National Service Training Programme (PLKN). This integration aims to broaden career opportunities for participants and strengthen their commitment to TVET pathways.

The session also included the presentation of Khazanah Nasional Berhad's Global Initiative for Future Talent (GIFT), which aims to equip TVET graduates with important skills, thereby enhancing competition in the job market.
The Prime Minister also announced additional funding of 200,000,000 Malaysian Ringgit at the launch of National TVET Day on 8 June 2024. This funding will support high-impact training programs and will be managed by the National Council .

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ahmad Zahid participated in a stakeholder engagement session, which was attended by 66 Government Linked Companies (GLCs) and private sector entities. This meeting enhanced collaboration and sharing of best practices between industry and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
