The most cunning hint of all time?
Some bittersweet news for longtime Prince of Persia fans, as it has been confirmed that the long-awaited remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still in development. However, it will be a few years before we can play it.
During the Ubisoft Forward presentation at Summer Game Fest 2024, Ubisoft Montpellier brand manager Gwenn Berhault made several Prince of Persia-related announcements to celebrate the series' 35th anniversary, and ended with a short teaser for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

And when we say short, we mean it. The brief, 30-second teaser shows a candle “extinguishing” itself while night turns to day in the background, eloquently demonstrating the game’s central time-reversal mechanism.
The teaser ends by announcing that the remake is scheduled to release sometime in 2026, but no specific details were given beyond that. Platforms have also not been announced, though it's easy to imagine the game coming to PS5 , Xbox Series X|S , PC , and possibly Nintendo 's next console .
Unfortunately, there was no new gameplay in the teaser, suggesting that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake is still in a fairly early stage of development. While the remake was originally announced in 2020 and scheduled for release in 2021, the extremely poor reception led Ubisoft to postpone the project. It seems that at some point between then and now, development on the remake may have started all over again.

Fortunately, there's still plenty for Prince of Persia fans to enjoy until 2026, thanks to Ubisoft's renewed interest in developing the series. The critically acclaimed metroidvania Prince of Persia: The Lost Crownhas received a batch of new free content, and there's a story-focused DLC coming in September of this year.
Meanwhile, The Rogue Prince of Persia recently launched on Steam in early access. The roguelite game developed by Evil Empire has received its first major content update, known as ‘The Temple of Fire.’ It introduces new biomes, enemies, and progression features.
