Prince of Persia fans are really in for a treat this year. We've already seen the release of the well-received Metroidvania Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, but Ubisoft has just announced another game in the series. Rogue Prince of Persia is a collaboration with Evil Empire, the developers behind the iconic roguelite Dead Cells. It'll be released on Steam Early Access on May 14th.

It's a side-scrolling roguelike game, just like Dead Cells. As you can see from the trailer, the graphics are also reminiscent of the widely acclaimed and highly addictive action-platformer. You play as, Prince of Persia, who has been equipped with a mysterious device that allows him to resurrect after death. You try your best. You die. You buy upgrades in the central base world. This is the type of roguelite and I'm totally here for it.
Despite looking uncannily similar to Dead Cells, the moveset seems to be inspired by the Prince of Persia series. Players will have access to the game's signature wall-running and related acrobatic skills to navigate through the interactively generated levels. To that end, there are a number of colorful biomes, each inspired by Persian architecture.

There are also a variety of weapons to choose from, to suit different playstyles. These include twin blades, spears, backs, axes and more. Additionally, players can equip secondary weapons such as bows and grappling hooks, making each run a unique gameplay experience. Ubisoft says the game will receive multiple updates once it receives feedback from Early Access buyers, promising “new levels, bosses, weapons, enemies and upgrades.”.

The game was revealed at the Triple-i Initiative, an event for indie games. Evil Empire is very much an indie studio, but the same can't be said for Ubisoft. This isn't the first time Evil Empire has attempted something similar in a long-running series. The studio previously created a Castlevania spin-off for Dead Cells.
