Microsoft has identified a new known issue that causes KB5037765for Windows Server 2019 to fail to install with errors 0x800f0982.

“Windows servers attempting to install the May 2024 security update (KB5037765), released on May 14, 2024, may experience issues during the installation process,” explains in the Windows Health Dashboard.
“The installation may fail with error code 0x800f0982. This issue is more likely to affect devices that do not have support for the en_us language pack.“
This confirmation comes after many administrators reported seeing installation failures when trying to deploy cumulative updates released during the May 2024 Patch Tuesday on Windows Server 2019.
As first reported by German tech blogger Günter Born, these widespread issues affect devices running non-English Windows Server installations.
While Microsoft has not yet provided an official solution for these installation issues and is still working on a fix, installing the en-US on affected systems using the LPKSetup will likely allow the installation of security update KB5037765.

To do this, you will need to follow the procedure below:
- Download the ISO image with the language packs.
- Mount the ISO image.
- Press Windows logo key +R to open the “Run” dialog box. Type “lpksetup.exe” and then select “OK”.
- Step through the wizard to select and install the English language pack (you can also use the LPKSetup command-line options to install the language pack using an elevated command prompt).
This week, the company also fixed a known issue caused by the April 2024 Windows security updates, which broke VPN connections on client and server platforms.
