Fujitsu: Detects malware in systems and breach of customer data

Fujitsu discovered that many of its systems were infected with malware which also allowed customer data to be compromised/stolen.

Fujitsu is the sixth largest IT services provider in the world. Its products and services are used by a huge number of organizations. The Japanese company operates in more than 100 countries and maintains a multifaceted relationship with the Japanese government, undertaking public sector projects, participating in R&D projects and playing a critical role in the country's national security.

However, according to a recent announcement from the company, its systems and customer data were breached

" We have confirmed the presence of malware on several of our business computers and our internal investigation has revealed that files containing personal information and information related to customers may have been illegally removed our ," Fujitsu said in a statement

“After confirming the presence of the malware, we immediately isolated the affected computers and took measures such as increasing monitoring of other business computers“.

Fujitsu says it will continue to investigate how the malware got onto systems , while an investigation is also underway into the stolen data.

The company has notified the Personal Data Protection Commission and is preparing individual notifications for the affected customers.

At this time, we do not know the number of customers affected or whether they are business customers or consumers.

The malware attack could have a significant impact on Fujitsu's business. First, customer trust could be undermined, as protecting data is crucial. If customers doubt Fujitsu's ability to protect their data, they may decide to move to other providers.
