Eight unreleased Apple devices with the A14 Bionic, A17 Pro, and M2 have been found in the list of processor CPIDs. There are two upcoming devices with the A14 Bionic and A17 Pro, and four upcoming M2 devices. MacRumors believes these are related to the following products:

  • A14 Bionic: – 11th-generation iPad, available in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular configurations. The assigned model number doesn't align with the expected specifications of the ‌iPad‌ (11th generation), suggesting it could be a modified version of the ‌iPad‌ (10th generation) with Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular configurations, or possibly a HomePod
  • A17: iPad mini (7th generation) in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular configurations. This may be the A17 Pro chip or an A17 variant.
  • M2: iPad Air (sixth generation) in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch screen sizes and in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular configurations.

If they refer to a new entry-level model for Apple’s‌iPad‌, the chips suggest that the device won’t get a chip upgrade in its next iteration. The current, 10th-generation ‌iPad‌ already packs an A14 Bionic chip. The chances of this device being a ‌HomePod‌ with a display are slim given the model number trends, but the possibility can’t be ruled out.

The current, sixth-generation ‌iPad mini‌ model features the A15 Bionic, and some previous predictions suggested that this model would likely incorporate the A16 Bionic in its next generation, so an A17 processor would be a significant upgrade.

There were also eight more designs for two unreleased Apple chips that are likely related to the four models in the iPhone 16 and the next-generation iPad Pro in 11- and 13-inch screen sizes. The next iPad Pro is supposed to be released later this month and will feature the M3 chip that Apple introduced in October 2023.

According to the information, the entire iPhone 16 series will use the same A18 processor, confirming previous reports. The source who published the information told MacRumors that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely use a processor labeled “A18 Pro”, even if the entire processor series uses the same CPID. The single “A18” processor in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus may have some pending or disabled modules to differentiate it.

Earlier this week, the source revealed the expected iPhone and iPad models that are set to receive support from iOS 18. Although the account is keeping a low profile, its history proves the accuracy of its previous information and claims.

How do Apple chips affect technological innovation?

Apple chips, such as the A14 Bionic and M1, influence technological innovation in a variety of ways.

  • First, they are designed to take full advantage of the ARM architecture, offering excellent performance with low power consumption.
  • Second, Apple's chips are equipped with AI and machine learning technologies, allowing devices to perform more complex tasks, such as voice and image recognition, with greater efficiency and speed.
  • Third, Apple's chips enable the development of more powerful and energy-efficient devices. This is especially important for portable devices, such as smartphones and laptops, where battery life is critical.
  • Finally, Apple chips enable the development of new applications and services. For example, Apple's U1 chip, which uses Ultra Wideband technology, enables precise real-time location tracking, paving the way for new applications in navigation and broadband communications.
