Most text- or voice-based AI assistants are known as chatbots. With these apps, you can communicate with the chatbot either by typing commands or speaking, and get a response in a very short time.

Microsoft's chatbot is called Copilot and can provide a variety of services. It can generate text, images using Generative AI (or GenAI), help with organization, and even help with cooking. It can also help search for or locate objects, play music, and even write code for you.

You can download the Copilot app, which works on iPhone and iPad , from the App Store on your iOS device . There is currently no version available for Apple Watch or Apple TV, but they are expected to be released soon.

Microsoft also offers a dedicated page for the Copilot app on its own website.

If you have account , you can sign in through the Copilot app. The app will save all your previous messages and use them to optimize future responses.

Even if you don't have a Microsoft account, Copilot is still wonderfully useful. There are three tiers of usage: free, paid, and Enterprise.

To get Copilot on your iOS device, open the App Store, search for “Copilot” and download it to your device.

When you first run it, you’ll get some explanations and see a “Continue” button. Click on it to go to the main Copilot page.

If you haven’t already enabled Location Services in your iOS device settings, you’ll be prompted to do so. You might also be interested in – Copilot uses your location for things like directions, nearby places, weather, and more.

There's a small menu button in the top right corner that lets you reset the conversation to its original state to start a new one, and there are also several predefined prompt buttons in the center of the window.

At the bottom of the window there is a text input field, a camera button, and a microphone button.

In the center of the main window is the “Use GPT-4” button, which allows you to enable or disable GPT-4.

To start a new conversation, you can also tap the blue “New Conversation” button in the lower left corner, next to the prompt field. If you use the microphone button, you can give your instructions by speaking into your device.

After you send your message, Copilot connects to Microsoft Bing support servers, where artificial intelligence works to process your request. You'll usually get a response within seconds.

If you're a $20 Copilot Pro subscriber and are signed in to your Microsoft account, Copilot's responses will be both fast and detailed.

After providing an answer, you can ask Copilot further questions about the current topic to improve its answers. If you want to ask something new in Copilot, it is best to reset the original prompt first, although it is not mandatory. You can also copy answers from Copilot and save them elsewhere, for example in the Apple Notes app
