Google Chat has undergone a major redesign on Android devices to improve the user experience.
The key changes include:
- A new bar at the bottom with four icons for Home, Direct messages, Spaces, and Mentions, as well as a floating action button for creating new conversations.
- The refresh also includes new menu options, creating a refreshed app experience.

Although some users have already received the Google Chat update early, the rollout of the redesign is slower than expected, as it takes about three weeks for the changes to appear on Android devices.
The redesigned Google Chat was first introduced in November, but it took some time to be implemented on our smartphones. It is reported that the change has arrived on some of their devices, while the last update of the app in the Google Play Store was on December 5.

Those who have access to the new look of Google Chat will see that the bar at the bottom is now animated with four icons next to an additional animated action button (FAB) that is more square. From left to right, the icons inside the 'pill' are for Home, Direct messages, Spaces , and Mentions, while the FAB next to the sphere is for creating a new conversation. In the Gmail app, the entire bar containing the chat bubble and accompanying New Conversation button is now its own FAB that appears when you tap the middle chat icon in the bottom bar in Gmail.

The major redesign changes appear to bring Google Chat more in line with other Google apps and software that have been integrated with Material You in recent years. However, there are doubts about whether the design changes are welcome, as concerns have been expressed about the uniformity in design across Google's various apps.
