Steam Link can now wirelessly stream VR games to Meta Quest

Steam Link is a tool available for the Meta Quest 2, 3 , and Pro that wirelessly streams VR games directly from your Steam library to the headset, so you can continue to avoid cables.

One of the main selling points of Meta Quest's VR headsets is that they can play PC VR titles, but you have to be physically connected to your computer with a cable. There are some third-party alternatives that allow for wireless game streaming, such as Virtual Desktop, but now Steam has announced an official solution.

The free app already exists, but it's been used to stream Steam games to phones, tablets, and TVs. This is the first time it's available for VR titles.

There is one big limitation. As with Virtual Desktop, Steam Link and Meta Quest , you also need a capable PC that can run high-quality VR games. You just won't need the cable. It's possible that this service will work via cloud platforms, but the results will likely be mediocre. Steam has published the recommended PC specs, indicating an NVIDIA GTX970 or better GPU , 16GB of RAM , and Windows 10 or higher.

In addition to the computer, you also need a 5GHz WiFi router, with both the headset and computer connected to the same network. You can download the Steam Link app directly from the Quest store to get started. This may not be the biggest problem in the world for those already using Virtual Desktop, but anything that increases the number of people playing Half-Life: Alyx is a good thing.
