Apple has found a way to update an iPhone that is still in its packaging, through a system that allows iOS updates to unopened smartphones while they are in the Apple Store .

One of the problems facing hardware is that consumers often find that their devices need an immediate software update from the moment they buy them. This is also true for recently released devices, such as the iPhone 15, which require an update to iOS 17.0.1 before their release.

According to Mark Gurman, in Bloomberg’s “Power On” newsletter, Apple reportedly has a system that can update the operating system of iPhones before they go on sale. What makes it significant is that it can be done without opening the box.
This pad-like device is used by store employees to activate upgrades on unopened iPhone boxes. The pad allows the iPhone to be wirelessly activated, performs the software update, and then turns it off.
Although the report only mentions iPhones, it's reasonable to think that the idea could extend to other Apple products mentioned in the catalog.

It is claimed that consumers may benefit from the system in Apple Stores before the end of 2023.
