How Check In works on iPhone
According to Apple, Check In on iPhone automatically notifies a friend or family member that your iPhone has arrived at the designated location. Users also have the option to choose which details they want to share with other users to see in case Check In is left incomplete.
Similarly, if a friend sends you a Check In but their iPhone hasn't arrived as expected, you can see their location, battery percentage, cellular signal, and more.
How to get started with Check In on iPhone
- Open the Messages app on your iPhone
- Tap the Compose button at the top of the screen
- Select Add recipient and select a new or existing conversation
- Tap the Apps button and then tap More
- Select the Check In option and Tap Edit
- Now, adjust the following settings
- When I arrive: Specify your destination, how you're traveling (driving, transit, or walking), and add extra time if needed. Check In tracks your journey and alerts your friend if your iPhone doesn't move for an extended period of time or if it doesn't arrive at your destination as expected.
- After a timer: Set a time period—for example, if you're meeting someone new. If you don't end Check In before the time you set, Check In notifies your friend.
- Press the Send button
- Check in is now complete. After that, once you arrive at your destination, Check In is automatically completed and notifies your friends and family.
- If your iPhone doesn't arrive at your destination or you don't cancel Check In and don't respond to Check In messages, your iPhone's trip details will be sent to your friend.
Note: If you start a Check In and then lose service or your iPhone is disabled, the Check In recipient may receive a delayed or early notification and have the option to view the iPhone details you shared with them.
