Air Canada: Reveals employee data breach

Air Canada, Canada's largest airline, has disclosed a cybersecurity incident in which hackers gained limited access to its internal systems, resulting in the breach of data belonging to some employees.

The company stressed that systems related to flights and customer service were not affected by the incident and there was no access to customer information .

Air Canada says it has notified employees affected by the data breach and has also notified relevant law enforcement authorities about the incident.

"We can also confirm that all of our systems are fully operational," the statement continues.

The company explains that it took extra security measures, with the help of leading cybersecurity experts.

“We have since implemented further improvements to our security measures, including with the help of leading global cybersecurity experts, to prevent such incidents in the future. This is part of our commitment to maintaining the security of the data we hold“.

Air Canada did not provide further details about the incident that led to the breach of employees' .

It is worth noting, however, that this is not the first time that the systems of Canada's largest airline have been breached by hackers.

In 2018, Air Canada revealed that the profile information of 20,000 users of its mobile app had been compromised by unauthorized parties. As a result, the airline was forced to lock all accounts (1.7 million) as a safeguard.
