Mortal Kombat 1 has announced another character to be added to the game, and this time it's an imposing fighter that players first saw in Mortal Kombat 11.

Mortal Kombat 1 confirms the events of the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath expansion, specifically the end of Liu Kang. In this ending, Liu Kang defeats Shang Tsung and gains the power to create a New Age, where everyone can live a peaceful life and continue to fight. This New Age will give the fighters completely different roles than the ones fans are used to seeing, and every Mortal Kombat 1 trailer that has been released confirms the changes that fans have been waiting for.
NetherRealm Studios released a new trailer during DreamCon 2023 that revealed Geras as a character in the game. He first appeared in Mortal Kombat 11, where Geras was Kronika's loyal servant and a person with godlike powers. While his role in Mortal Kombat 11 was as an antagonist, the Mortal Kombat 1 trailer reveals that Geras is now the guardian of the Hourglass that Liu Kang used to defeat Shang Tsung. The trailer also shows that Geras and Liu Kang have a friendly relationship, although it doesn't go into further detail. While Geras' return to Mortal Kombat was not expected by fans of the game, the announcement was met with a lot of positivity.
In addition to announcing Geras as a character in Mortal Kombat 1, the trailer showed off his new design and some of his moves. Geras is still the “master of the sands of time,” used to attack opponents along with the Hourglass and extended powers of time. In the new trailer, players can also see the new Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities, where Geras beats Baraka against a sandstorm. In the second Fatality, Liu Kang takes Sub-Zero into space and kills a member of the Lin Kuei tribe.
Geras' return is just one of many Mortal Kombat 1 news reveals from NetherRealm Studios. Last week, Mortal Kombat 1 revealed the actor who will voice Omni-Man, who will be one of the characters added via the Kombat Pack. For players excited about all the news related to the game, a Mortal Kombat 1 beta has been confirmed for August. It will give players access to one of the main rosters, the standard 1v1 mode, and a single-player version of Klassic Towers.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on September 19th for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5 , and Xbox Series X/S.
