employees are being asked to return to the office and work there three days a week. This work policy will go into effect in September.
The company has reportedly begun notifying employees of the changes, which will primarily affect those employees who already spend part of their time in the office. Those with a contract to work remotely do not appear to be affected.

“We believe that people can make a meaningful impact from both the office and home,” a Meta spokesperson said. “We are also committed to continually improving our model to foster the collaboration, relationships, and culture necessary for employees to perform at their best.”
Meta first changed its remote work policy in June 2021. At the time, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerbergsaid the company had learned during the Covid pandemic that good work can be done from anywhere. “… I’m even more optimistic that remote work at scale is possible, especially as video presence and virtual reality continue to improve,” Zuckerberg said at the time.

However, since last year, many major tech companies such as Amazon and Google parent Alphabet have changed their plans for remote work and asked employees to return to physical offices at least three days a week.
In March, Zuckerberg hinted that he was going to update Meta’s policy when he said the company conducted an internal study that showed that engineers who work at the company alongside their colleagues “get more done”Essentially, Meta believes that employees are more productive when they’re at the company.
Other tech have also done their own research to justify orders to bring employees back to the office. The ability to collaborate is a key argument. Indeed, one of the biggest benefits of returning to the office is the opportunity for increased collaboration with colleagues. Working in an office allows for easier communication and brainstorming. For many, it’s easier to get a colleague’s attention when they’re in the same room as they are when they’re sending an email or instant message.

In addition to changes in labor policy, Meta has made multiple layoffs since last year, with the latest round of layoffs taking place last month.
